F. Evan Benz joined the Law Office of Derrick J. Hensley as an Associate Attorney in September 2017. Evan is passionate about serving clients and the greater community with professionalism, zeal, and compassion. He is proficient in Spanish and in French.
Evan graduated from the UNC School of Law in Chapel Hill, NC in 2015. During law school, he focused on immigration law, civil rights law, and social justice. During his third year, Evan acted as a Certified Law Student Practitioner in the UNC Immigration and Human Rights Policy Clinic, and served as Chief Articles & Notes Editor for the First Amendment Law Review. He was also a leader in a number of student groups, including the Education Law & Policy Society, the UNC Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and the Immigration Law Association. Dedicated to public service, Evan completed over 200 hours of pro bono service during his three years of law school, and received the 2L UNC Pro Bono Publico Award in recognition of his commitment to helping meet unmet legal needs in his community.
Before joining the firm, Evan spent two years in Massachusetts, where he was first a Fall Legal Fellow with National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers’ Guild, and then a Justice AmeriCorps Legal Fellow with MetroWest Legal Services in Framingham, Mass from 2015 to 2017.
